THE MERGE COFFEE STORY
Merge Coffee Company is a family-owned specialty coffee roaster and café based in Harrisonburg, VA, located in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley. Our name, "Merge," comes from the fusion of two families—each with different strengths—coming together to build something bigger than ourselves. What started in a garage with a 1-pound roaster has grown into a recognized name in Virginia coffee. Founded in 2017 by cousins Charles & Darryl Matthews and sisters Emily & Larisa Martin, Merge began as a passion project fueled by a love for great coffee and a deep respect for community. Early on, we learned the ropes of small-batch roasting and took our offerings online, shipping fresh roasted beans to friends and coffee lovers across the region.
Growth Fueled by Craft and Community
As our roasting skills developed, so did our reach. We opened our first café on the north side Harrisonburg, where we focused on crafting drinks with care and creating a welcoming environment for every guest. That small café grew into three full-service locations across Harrisonburg, each rooted in the same commitment to quality and hospitality.
